Implementing any new system is hard work; Microsoft Dynamics NAV is no exception. Of course, Dynamics NAV is easier than most ERP solutions to implement; it is flexible and as it is not parameter driven it does not rely on complicated configuration setting, making it extremely suitable for rapid deployment. Rapid also means that it is all to easier to run off in the wrong direction and so there are three crucial elements to successful implementation.

  1. Specifying requirements
  2. Testing, testing, testing
  3. End user buy-in

Specifying requirements is the spade work; it can be laborious, especially when you’re keen to crack on with the implementation. However, if you haven’t documented what the system needs, how will you know when it has done it?

Testing is crucial; you need the right test cases and the most determined of users to set about trying to break the system. If testing is skimped on it will impact on the last element, end user buy-in.

End user buy-in means bringing everyone in the organisation along when you go-live. This requires enthusiasm from management, great data migration that helps with familiarity, training and support from both partner and user champions in the business.

What does all this have to do with chocolate? Well it seems all projects are fuelled by chocolate so you may want to bulk buy at the beginning! A recent client measured chocolate consumption during project testing phase and recorded an astonishing 7.5kg; they gave up trying to count the biscuits and no mention was made of alcohol or energy drinks . . . !

For our recent events we gave away TVision branded chocolate. We will be re-ordering and ensuring that it reaches clients during implementation to ensure the sweet taste of success for their Dynamics NAV project. Our white paper on the Successful Implementation of Microsoft Dynamics NAV provides further guidance or contact us and claim some TVision chocolate!
