After yesterday’s announcement of the new features coming in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2017, we all wondered what day 2 of Directions EMEA would hold.

Well, as it turns out, it’s all about the future.

The future of the cloud

Today’s keynote focussed on the future of cloud technology, and highlighted how Microsoft is committed to its investment in infrastructure:

Azure remains the cornerstone of Microsoft’s cloud strategy and is what will power NAV 2017 and Dynamics 365 in the cloud. However, fear not – NAV 2017 is still going to be available on-premise.

Release date for NAV 2017

We can announce that Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2017 will be released on 24 October 2016 – not long to wait now!

PowerBI, Extensions and AppSource

We know that PowerBI will be improved and integrated directly into  NAV 2017 and Dynamics 365. Combined with Cortana Intelligence machine learning, this means that your data can come alive.  We attended several talks and workshops on what this means for our customers and, according to Claudio Martell, Wine System Product Manager at TVision, PowerBI in NAV 2017 is “the real deal”!

Extensions and AppSource will also play important roles in the future of NAV.

The extension’s functionality introduced in NAV 2016 will be improved as well. Developers who already extend the functionality of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2017 can package up their apps into extensions and sell them on AppSource – Microsoft’s ‘app store’ for its Dynamics products.

Another upside of Extensions is that upgrading to future versions of NAV should be a lot quicker and easier.
